Harrison Bergeron questions

1. I think that if everyone is equal in Vietnam I totally agree, because now that this country have no more talented people being equal is fair to everyone. Plus here is like a dictatorship government in this country, government command people to do things. People in this country have no luxury standards living, that's another reason why everyone in Viet Nam needs to be equal.

2.  A society where everyone is equal will have the following laws: no purchasing things that are expensive, don't laugh at disabled people, help others when they're in need, participate in activities held by government, adults should send their childs to school, everyone must get a job

3. To people who are mentally, physically and socially less capable to "catch up" I'll talk to them, try to understand them more through the conversation. I'll introduce this person to my friends to get the person in having a habit of meeting people and not afraid of them. After that, I'll introduce the person to my family members.

4. Problems I can foresee in a society with laws that fore "equality for all" are people won't be able to express their talents, people with talents won't be able to help the others, government have too much power in controlling the citizens. If I were the government I would cancel the law that everyone is equal, then I'll settle down the chaos by talking to the people and try to reason with them.

5. I think total equality is impossible because everyone have their own talents and at different levels in their studies. People also have different apperance, height, culture and nationality. These can't be change, how can we make all people equal. If we do make them equal then there's no ideas flowing from places to places.

6. I remember that when people speak Vietnamese to me after I stop speaking it for a long time I don't understand what they're saying. I don't speak Vietnamese at home, I speak Cantonese to my parents and English to my dad. Just like Hazel near the end, when George said that she could speak that again she speaks it for real. George is just making an impression, another one is that when I think solutions for problems if i think too hard ideas would flow out of my mind just like in the story when the earphones kept George from thinking so far.

Letter on Bear Bile

Dear Tammy:

Hi, this is a student writing to you. I hope you know what a bear bile is. Today I’m gonna tell you things about bear bile and the poor bears having them. I went to a wildlife station in Cu Chi, Vietnam. There are birds, monkeys & otters living there. But the only animal I felt empathy for is the bears. You probably wonder why, the bears have been hunted in Asia for many years. For what? Just only for their tiny bile, seeing this the Cu Chi rescue station have been trying to take all the bears from illegal trades & breed them in the station. To me the first thing I saw when walking in the staion is the freedome life of the animals, the friendliness of the tourguide & the animals. The happiness of animals, my feelings for them are very happy and grateful that they have been rescue from their nightmares in their life. From my opinion that these rescue stations should exist because they help to preserve the environment and save the animals for later generations to enjoy. Children could also know what a rescue station is and how it works to save the injured animals. People could also get jobs, most of the rescue station are encouraged by the government and sponsored by different companies. We could help to keep these stations going by donating money to them, showing them your support by helping them as much as you can and respect them. Also be grateful, praise them for what they did in order to make them proud. I wish that the government don’t try to close it down and just sell the building for money, some did. Nowadays people use a lot of bear bile, they believed it help them in making them live longer, have a good health. If we keep taking the bile out of the bear it could cause all the bears to extinct, never to be seen again. Even if you use it many times, there’s no guarantee that the bile will keep you in good shape for the rest of your life, it could also make nature lost its balance. The food chain could also be broken, there’ll be no more bears for later generations to look at. If children see adults killing bears they will mimic it and try to kill one bear, that bear get angry and will attack the child causing it to die. I got this link when I went to the Cu Chi wildlife rescue station: www.wildlifeatrisk.org. You could go on there and learn more about the bears and other animals, here are the other one: google.com, wikipedia.org. Type in bear bile when you went to these websites. Let me know if you have concerns. Take care.

Sincerely
Samantha

Questions

1. Advertising could make people want the product eagerly, it could also make people think about the product as a good product. The company wants money, then they have to make the advertisement more attractive and the advertisement have to convince people to buy the product. Therefore if the people watch the advertisement were being convinced they would buy the product, that leads to the increase of consumption.

2. No, 'cause citizens they live in an environment that things are always changing. They want new things for themselves, we could tell them that they could recycle their old stuffs. We could also show them the bad side of the product in order to prevent them from buying it.

3. No 'cause I already knows that everything have good and bad. That's the reason why I never get influenced by advertisement. But some of my friends does 'cause they didn't know that there's always bad things behind the advertisement.

Sustainable Development Examples

1) When keeping warm people could burn right amount of coal to last them for a day. They could save coals by burning when it's too cold and they absolutely need it. Trees could be save by being chopped down and processed into coal.

2) Humans need meat to live, they could hunt the bigger ones and spare the babies. In this way the babies grew up and humans could have meat next time.

3) Humans need shelters, building a house means chopping down woods. If people chopped down enough woods to build a house, it could make the environment clean by leaving some trees behind.

Migration/Immigration story

A Road to Freedom

Once upon a time, there was a country called “Ice Country”. In this

country there were ice everywhere, the climate was cold all year round. A

little boy grew up here, his name is Toshiro. He lived with his parents and

his cousin, Hinamori. In the “Ice Country” was the ice made traveling very

hard, people couldn’t go anywhere. There was also lack of services, the

government wouldn’t provide anything for the people. Then the people had

to wait until the ice had melted a little and traveling work again. The country

as also too crowded, people kept moving into the country. They thought that

the country had everything they need. These push factors caused Toshiro’s

family to flee to another country to settle. Although “Ice Country” had been

their homeland for generations, because of the future for the family,

Toshiro’s parents decided it would be best if they move. There were still

many countries which were not crowded, but the family had decided to

relocate to “Love, Happiness and Freedom Country”.

“Love, Happiness and Freedom Country” had many pull factors: the

government provided the citizens with enough services, the climate and

weather was always peaceful here. Also the country had few people, few

people made the environment clean. It also made traveling into an

affordable thing. The benefits of going to this country were: Toshiro and

his cousin could have more education since the traveling was so easy, they

couldn’t be sick so easily because the environment is so clean. The family

could have anything they want now that the government provided good

services. There could also be negative benefits here: Toshiro and his cousin

will miss all their good friends back in the “Ice Country”, if the education

didn’t suit Toshiro and his cousin they couldn’t get any. Also if there’s too

little people they can’t interact. When they leave “ Ice Country”, there’s

good benefits: the family can escape poverty, find hope for their next

generations, avoid sickness, etc. Bad benefits could also be luring behind

them: have to made a lot of paperwork, leave their family, friends and

neighbors behind them. Toshiro and his cousin have to learn the “Love,

Happiness and Freedom Country” official language. When Toshiro finished

thinking these things, the family already arrived at the airport. They’ve gone

through all the customs, then they found themselves on a plane. After that,

the family settle in “Love, Happiness and Freedom Country” until now.
